And by that,I mean the time of month where the skin on the soles of my feet fucking peel off.
Yeah,normal recurrence for dancers in my dance form,it happens almost every month because of the footwork we do,but The EXCRUCIATING amount of pain is just ughhhh and then combine that with the pain and tiredness of dancing for like 2-3 hours straight.Literal hell.
My dad has a mask he keeps in the living room. It's always creeped me out. It was made to resemble a jester with long curled triangles lined with wire coming out the top of the mask. At the end of each one a jingle bell. The mask itself was black and gold covered in glitter with an intricate design.
It had a permanent smile on it's face and everytime I saw it I couldn't help the feeling that it was... staring at me. I can't, for the life of me, figure out why my dad keeps that thing around, but to each his own, I guess. I just try not to think about it when I visit. Try to ignore the feeling of being watched as I sleep. Try to ignore the chill I get everytime I look at it. I pretend it's not there.
This time when I came to visit... the mask was gone. I asked my dad, he said it went missing. He's not sure how it disappeared, but I, for one, was extremely relieved to finally have that thing out of my face. Good riddance, I say. I would finally have a peaceful night of sleep without that thing staring at me.
As I set up on the couch, ready to head to sleep... my relief about the mask quickly disappeared. The second my eyes were closed... I heard it. A faint sound... of jingle bells. And the feeling of being watched. Yet the mask was nowhere to be seen.
I'm not sure if this is better... or worse.

The MV Joyita was an American merchant ship that set out in October in 1955 from Samoa's harbour headed for the Tokelau Islands.
The ship would never arrive at it's destination.
THE DISAPPEARANCE:
On October 3rd, 1955, around 5:00 am, the MV Joyita left the Apia harbour on a path to the Tokelau Islands about 270 miles (430 km) away. She left Samoa on only one engine as her port engine clutch failed the pervious day. The trip was set to take somewhere between 41 and 48 hours with the ship set to arrive sometime on the 5th of October. On the 6th of October a message from Fakafo port reported the ship overdue.
No ship or land operator had heard any distress signal from the Joyita. A six day search-and-rescue mission was immediately launched. It covered around 100,000 square miles (260,000 km²) of ocean but no hint of the Joyita or her passengers or crew was found.
Five weeks later, on the 10th of November, the captain of Tuvalu, another merchant vessel, found the Joyita drifting nearly 600 miles (970 km) west from her scheduled route. The ship was partially submerged and listing heavily with no sign of the passengers or crew anywhere.
The missing passengers included a government official, a WWII surgeon, and two children. Four tons of cargo were also missing.

THE EVIDENCE:
When the Joyita was found, the recovery party noted that the radio was tuned to 2182 KHz, the international marine distress channel.
Upon inspection, it was found that the wires of the radio had a break in them, limiting the radio's range to about 2 miles (3.2 km). The break had been painted over, obscuring it from view, meaning the crew likely didn't notice it was there.
The Joyita was found to be listing heavily and barnacle growth suggested that it had been listing for a long period of time.
There was damage to her superstructure. Her flying bridge was smashed away and the deckhouse windows were broken.
The dinghy and lifeboats on the ship were missing as well as all the life jackets. The Joyita did not carry enough life jackets for all 25 passengers and crew members.
The starboard engine was covered by mattresses, the port engine clutch was still disassembled meaning the Joyita was still running on one engine. The starter motor of the auxiliary engine was missing.
An auxiliary pump had been rigged between the main engines, but hadn't been attached.
The electric clocks on board had stopped at 10:25 and the switches for the cabin lights had been left on indicating that whatever happened, happened at night.
The logbook and navigational equipment as well as firearms had gone missing.
A doctor's bag was found on deck containing a stethoscope, a scalpel and four lengths of bloodied bandages.
There was still fuel left in the tanks, from the amount used it was estimated she made it about 391 km (243 miles) only 80 km (50 miles) off teh shore of Tokelau.
Due to the Joyita's extremely buoyant design, once the water in her hull was drained out she floated fine enough to be taken back to shore. The leak that flooded the ship was estimated to have started sometime after 9 pm on the second night of the voyage.
THE THEORIES:
Theories of what happened on the Joyita range from the rational and conventional to aliens and the paranormal with everyone making attempts to explain the strange disappearance of the passengers and crew of the Joyita.
Given that the Joyita's hull was perfectly sound and her design made her almost unsinkable, a main problem for investigators was figuring out why the passengers and crew abandoned the vessel if the events were simply triggered by the flooding of the ship.
Injured Captain Hypothesis:
The captain of the Joyita, Captain Miller, should have been well aware that the Joyita would not sink due to the flooding, yet it seems as though he abandoned the ship as well. A friend of Miller's also said that he firmly believed Captain Miller would not abandon the Joyita, at least not as long as he was alive. This then led to the theory that Captain Miller was somehow badly injured or even killed sometime before the leak happened creating a mass panic in the crew and passengers leading them to abandoning the vessel with an incapacitated or even dead captain. The bloodied bandages support this theory.
The previously mentioned friend of Captain Miller said that there was some tension between Captain Miller and his first mate that he believes might have evolved to a physical altercation leading to both the men possibly falling overboard, leaving the crew and passengers to panic when the ship began taking on water as no one but those two would have known what to do.
If this theory were true however, it would not explain the missing equipment and cargo as the crew and passengers would have left in a panic, they wouldn't have wasted time on the equipment or cargo. Another thing was that Captain Miller was the only well-experienced seaman on board other than his first mate.
Pirates Hypothesis:
PIRATES! Self-explanatory. The smashed flying deck and damaged deckhouse support this theory.
Some think it might be been the Japanese or Russians instead of pirates, but that's just because of the Cold War and also really heavy anti-Japanese sentiment going on around that time.
Insurance Fraud Hypothesis:
Record shows that Miller was in a large amount of debt around that time. However, thsi would have been impossible given that no seacocks (no one say anything) were found open letting the water flow into the shop and the ship was nearly impossible to deliberately sink. Miller was also relying on the Joyita making multiple trips to Tokelau and back for the government, quickly clearning his debt.
Mutiny Hypothesis:
Ship starts taking on water. No one on board is okay with this and wants to turn back to shore. Captain Miller is desperate to clear his debt so he keeps heading to Tokelau Islands regardless of what his crew tells him.
Crew is not happy. This results in a mutiny where Captain Miller is injured and when stormy weather starts to pick up, the electricity on the ship is cut out leaving everyone in pitch black with an incapacitated captain and a listing, flooded ship. The crew make the decision to abandon the vessel, taking the equipment and cargo with them as well as the passengers and injured captain.
This theory seems illogical as the first mate would not have abandoned the vessel in the middle of the night like that out into the Pacific Ocean with no plan. The rafts and dinghy were small, the ship may have been listing but it was still floating. There was no logical reason for the first mate to abandon the ship especially as an experienced seaman he should have known better.
The question of what happened on the Joyita that night leading to the disappearance of all the passengers and crew remains unanswered to this day, and with no more evidence or hints as to what may have happened on the ship, it will most likely remain that way.
